Sisterhood - March 2022

Pembroke Pines Jewish Center Sisterhood

We’re Back! Yes, Pembroke Pines Jewish Center is fully open again for all our religious services, meetings, and special events. Of course, the same precautions are still in place: Show proof of vaccination, wear a mask, and maintain social distance.

Mary Dobrinsky is back and has created fantastic new jewelry for the Gift Shop. Come by soon because her latest creations are flying off the shelves. We’re open prior to services on Friday nights (before 7:30) and by special appointment. Contact Barbara Fischer (954-815-0848.)

We were so excited to have everyone in our newly refurbished meeting room for our February meeting with Joy Siegle reviewing “101 Essays that will Change the Way You Think” by Brianna Wiest. This was an inspiring meeting. Joy is our AvMed sponsor along with Nina Wallins. If you missed the meeting, you can sample three of the essays at this site: https://bookstr.com/article/3-best-essays-that-will-change-the-way-you-think/

As this newspaper went to press, we were still doing final confirmation on our March program, of fun entertainment. Join us on Tuesday, March 8 at 10:30 for a special treat and another chance to peruse the Gift Shop.

March will also have three very special events. Friday, March 4 is Shabbat Across America celebrated by congregations throughout North America. We will kick off ours with a delicious Shabbat dinner beginning at 5:30. Check our website and Facebook page for details. You can sign up with Sandi Rutner, 954-437-8224.

Ready to play cards? I thought so. Our Card Party returns to the temple March 29 with Mah Jongg, Poker, Canasta, Pan, Bridge, or any other game you and your friends enjoy. We’ll kick off at 11:30 with Diamond’s famous Twin Sandwiches and then get down to some serious play until 3:30. Come and bring your group. Details are on the website and Facebook. Call Sandi to register and give your sandwich order.

March is also the kickoff for our next round of programs with FIU’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. You were so enthusiastic about our sample programs in December, you’ll find our spring programs in March and April even more enlightening, interesting, and engaging. AvMed is sponsoring these classes as well as our monthly meetings. Check the website and Facebook for details. Annual membership in OLLI entitles you to sign up for any and all programs they offer. Residents of Century Village will receive a discount for programs offered here. Spread the word. Call OLLI at 305-919-5900 to register and get your discount.

A final note: Passover begins Friday, April 15. We will be celebrating our PPJC Family First-Night Seder, beginning at 5 PM followed by Friday night services at 7:30.

Remember, all our meetings and special events are open to everyone. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
