Sisterhood - April 2022
Can you believe Passover is upon us? Our Passover Seder
is Friday, April 15. Doors will open at 5 PM and the Seder will
begin at 5:30 followed by dinner. Rabbi David Schonblum will
officiate. Cost is $60 per person. Check the website under
Event Brochures for details. (https://www.pembrokepinesjewishcenter.
com/) Come and bring a friend or neighbor to share
in this joyous occasion. Everyone is welcome.
Our “Shabbat Across America,” celebrated by congregations
all over the US and Canada was a huge success with
50 people attending. Initiated by the National Jewish
Outreach Program in 1996 as part of many projects to convey
the relevancy and vibrancy of Judaism, everyone was delighted
to be back, enjoying Diamond’s excellent meal together.
Thanks to Sandi Rutner for handling reservations, Eileen
Cohen for checking folks in, and both for helping with table set
up. Mike Canter set up coffee and tea and made sure our
kitchen and new dishwasher were ready for business again.
Synagogue president, Merv Levin did the honors, leading the
motzi and Kiddush.
Our March Sisterhood meeting was a Sing Along with our
own songstresses, Trudy Lerner and her daughter Malka, who
is also our cantorial soloist. We had fun singing some old
favorites. Remember, the ha-Shem says we are to “Make a joyful
noise,” not sing on key! Thanks for another joyful memory.
April 12, at 10:30, our co-president, Rebecca Reinstein, will
share about the Jews of Ukraine, their history and present
plight. She worked there after independence and has maintained
ties with the synagogue in Lviv. Everyone is welcome
and we’ll share a light lunch.
In March we also enjoyed very successful programs with
FIU’s Lifelong Learning Institute. We learned about current
events and Jews in France and had our first Drawing for
Longevity sessions. Coming up, Piano Literature April 5,
Yiddish and the Jews, April 19 and The Mob and Corruption
in South Florida, March 26. These programs are all 10:30 to
12. At this writing we were not sure if “Drawing for Longevity”
would continue. Please check the website and Calendar.
Thanks to AvMed for being our main sponsor for these events.
You can still sign up and get your discount at 305-919-5900.
Sponsorship supports our regular monthly meetings, our
FIU programs, and our dinners. Ongoing sponsors include
AvMed and Village Medical Center. We have also received
generous donations from the Isadore and Patricia Wollowick
Family Foundation and an anonymous source, which we have
passed directly to Pembroke Pines Jewish Center.
Mary Dobrinsky has outdone herself and you owe it to yourself
to check out her costome jewelry in our Gift Shop. We
have many gifts, both secular and religious for any occasion.
